Big White

Located an hour from Kelowna, this is the place for the best snow. It was awarded the North American family resort of the year in 2006 so it does have a really nice feel about it. The best things is that it is a real ski in/ski out experience and the staff interaction with the guests is definitely encouraged. The village takes up to 15000 guests along with 800 staff, so with these numbers you can definitely say Big White is one of the larger resorts, a variety of accommodation is also available from chalets, hotels or even full homes. Hostel accommodation is also available at Half Moon Hostel which is located right on the hill.

To Aussies and Kiwis it may feel like the coldest place on the face of the earth, in reality Big White is much warmer than most ski resorts in North America. The average temperatures (in celsius) during the season are as follows: November -6.5, Dec: -6.7 Jan: -7.3 Feb: -5.1, Mar: -4.1 and April: 0

Canadian Summer Program

Its obvious that Canada is an all time winter working holiday destination but in actual fact, Canada explodes throughout Summer and has almost 3 times as many Domestic and International tourists visiting throughout Summer & Spring.  Banff is undoubtedly the greatest summer working holiday destination in Canada as it not only has exceptional shopping, dinning and nightlife but even better still, has some absolutely mezmorising wildlife and outdoor adventures right at its foot step. The Working Holiday Club has 2 high profile locations in Banff CBD which include The Rimrock Resort Hotel and The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, both of which are 5 star resorts in the middle of the rocky mountains!! Our other location is small resort in Eastern Canada near to Ottawa, called Calabogie Peaks Resort, which is a tiny resort in comparison but offers both summer and winter activities and employment opportunities. Employment contracts commence in May through to September and depending  on your work performance, you may be given the opportunity to continue working through the winter season as well!

Park City Mountain Resort - Utah

Situated in Utah, near Salt Lake City, Park City is a large mountain with over 16 lifts allowing access to a skiable terrain of 3,300 acres, eight peaks and six bowls. It also boasts an incredible night life with dozens of bars, pubs and restaurants at the base of the lodge.

As the name states, Park City, also has some of the most unreal parks in the country. Professional skiers and riders frequent the resort, mainly sticking to the world‐renowned King’s Crown Superpark featured in many of today’s biggest ski and snowboard movies. However for the up‐and‐coming skier/rider, there are several other smaller parks for you to hone your skills before stepping it up. Because of its location, the resort also gets some unreal champagne powder in the months of January and February.

The Sun Dance Film Festival is also held in this small town in Late January. Bringing celebrities and a huge party atmosphere to the town for around two weeks. Park City is also one of the few resorts around The States to offer night skiing. This is a huge positive for employees, as no matter when you work, you can always find time to go riding.

Sierra-At-Tahoe Ski Resort - California

Sierra at Tahoe is a medium sized, ski in/ski out resort situated 10 miles south of South Lake Tahoe. It has long been renowned for it’s relaxed and easy‐going vibe and consistently receives awards for being environmentally conscious. It’s 2000 acres of skiable terrain and 2200 ft of vertical drop are evenly proportioned with beginner, intermediate and expert terrain. Sierra also offers world‐class tree and back country skiing as it receives enough fresh powder, annual average snowfall of around 450 inches, to keep even the most serious
powder junky happy.

Sierra is a great place to progress any skier/riders park skills. It boasts over four different sized terrain parks and a super pipe. It even has a partnership with Burton that resulted in the introduction of the Burton Progression Park. Sierra at Tahoe resort is also highly regarded in the industry for taking care of their employees and tries to provide a fun yet challenging working environment. It is committed to its employees to provide professional and personal development. The resort reliably provides its guests with less icier conditions and greater wind protection than most other resorts around Lake Tahoe.

Homewood Ski Resort - California

Rising spectacularly from the shores of the west lake, Homewood has the most amazing views out of any resort around Lake Tahoe. Although smaller in size, with only 1240 skiable acres and a vertical drop of around 1650 ft, there are many reasons why locals prefer this mountain. “From the top of the mountain looking down, it almost looks like you will ski right down into the lake,” commented past participant Simon, “the views, the people, the parties. I lovedworking at this resort.”

Because of its size, Homewood doesn't have the corporate feel that many larger resorts have. This results in somewhat of a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere around the resort. The slopes are also significantly less crowded than other resorts, providing guests with a more comfortable experience and fresh powder lines right up until closing. Homewood’s sister resort Alpine Meadows is also only about 11km away. Because these two resorts are owned by the same company, employees can enjoy staff benefits, lift passes and staff discounts on retail or food, at either resort.

Homewood does not provide staff accommodation, however finding a house around the resort is relatively easy. Last year all the participants were housed within five minutes walking distance to the resort.

Alpine Meadows Ski Resort - California

Positioned in North Lake Tahoe, this resort occupies 2400 skiable acres of some of the finest snow anywhere around the lake. Rising around 1000ft above tree level, or 10000ft above sea level, this resort has both epic tree runs, as well as big open faces, powder bowls, cliff drops and rock shoots. This mean that you can get big mountain riding, without the corporate working feel that many larger resorts have.

If you are a beginner however don’t fret. The resort has over 60% of beginner and intermediate terrain for you to ski/ride. Employees can also take part in ski or snowboard classes at the resort for free, if you are looking to improve. A huge positive of working at Alpine is that it has a sister resort called Homewood, around 11km away. If you work at one of these resorts, both your lift pass and resort benefits work at either resort. Meaning that in your time off you can explore another mountain for free!

As like most resorts around Tahoe, there is no on mountain lodging at Alpine, meaning that staff accommodation isn’t provided, however there is ample housing options within a 10 minute bus ride on the resort shuttle. Both The Working Holiday Club and Alpine Meadows will provide housing assistance for you, helping you find house‐mates and suitable housing options.
